Kano ADC Faction Petitions Police Over Leadership Crisis

The Kano State faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) submitted a petition to the Kano State Police Command on July 8, 2023, concerning a leadership dispute within the party. The faction, led by Hon Musa Shu Aibu Ungogo, accused Hajiya Naja'atu Muhammed of attempting to split the party by announcing a caretaker committee for the state chapter.

Naja'atu identifies herself as the ADC Deputy National Chairman for the Northwest and announced the dissolution of the Kano State Executive Committee, which was replaced by a caretaker committee led by Alhaji Umar Bala. The faction rejected this decision, claiming it violated the party's constitution and lacked proper authorization from the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC).

They argued that the caretaker committee's establishment was unauthorized and that Naja'atu's claims to her position were invalid due to amendments made to the party's constitution. The faction urged police to investigate the matter to prevent further unrest and maintain law and order amid the ongoing leadership crisis.
