Kano Landowners Protest Seizure of Farmlands by Government

Landowners from nine villages across three local government areas in Kano State are protesting against the alleged seizure of their farmlands by the Kano government. The affected villages include Tamburawa, Magami, Matag, Tudun Bayero, Hausawa, Tabki, Kumbotso, Tsamawa, and Kalinja.

The landowners, represented by the Farmer Development Forum, have called on the Ministry of Land Survey to ensure justice and the fair release of the seized farmland. They claim that the state government seized their land without proper compensation and that the case is currently before the state high court, which had previously ordered the government to maintain the status quo.

Mukhtar Hussain, the secretary of the group, expressed astonishment upon witnessing heavily armed security personnel escorting trucks to crush farmland in Tamburawa village last week. The landowners have stated they have no option but to storm the ministry to seek an explanation for the violation of the court's instructions.
