Kano Assembly to Screen Atiku's Son-in-Law for Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly is preparing to screen Murtala Sule Garo as the nominee for deputy governor, following a request from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. This request comes after the voluntary resignation of former deputy governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026, which created a vacancy in the office.

The House has constituted a 12-member committee to screen Garo, whose nomination is based on extensive consultations across various socio-political and cultural groups in the state. Garo, who has previously served as a special adviser to the governor on inter-party affairs and as chairman of the Kabo Local Government Area, is noted for his experience in public administration and grassroots politics.

Governor Yusuf has expressed confidence in Garo's loyalty and understanding of the political landscape, urging the House to expedite the confirmation process in accordance with Section 191(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.
