Kano State Screens Couples for Mass Wedding Program

The Kano State Hisbah Board has conducted mandatory medical screenings for 720 couples out of a planned 3,000 as part of a mass wedding program. This initiative, disclosed by Deputy Command General Sheikh Mujahedeen Aminudeen in a telephone interview, aims to address social issues such as prostitution among young women whose families lack financial means to sponsor marriages.

The screening process, which began on May 8, 2026, is set to cover couples from 24 local government areas, including Kano Metropolitan Area. The board has announced that screenings will continue in other local government areas at a later date, with specific dates to be announced.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reintroduced this mass wedding program as part of efforts to combat social vices in the state.
