Kano State Allocates N1.5bn for Mass Wedding Program

The Kano State government has set aside N1.5 billion for a mass wedding program that will benefit 3,000 couples. Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, the Command General of the Hisbah Board, announced this initiative on Monday during a briefing with journalists.

The funds will cover expenses such as furniture, food items, and dowry materials, with each bride receiving N100,000. The program will also include mandatory medical screenings for prospective couples to assess their health status, focusing on conditions such as hepatitis, pregnancy, HIV, genotype, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Daurawa noted that over 5,000 individuals applied for the program, but only 3,000 will be selected following the medical screening process. The screenings are set to begin on May 8, 2026, and the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is expected to announce the date for the mass wedding event soon.
