Kano Police Announce Security Measures for Election

The Kano State Police Command has implemented temporary movement restrictions and security measures in preparation for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency election set for June 20, 2026. These measures, announced on June 17, are part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that there would be a total restriction on vehicular and pedestrian movement within the local government area from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on election day. However, accredited election observers and essential media personnel will be exempt from these restrictions.

The police warned against electoral malpractice, emphasizing that violators would face arrest and prosecution under the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022. The command has also deployed security personnel to polling units and critical locations to safeguard voters and electoral officials, urging the public to report any suspicious activities.
