Kano Police Restrict Movement for By-Election Security

The Kano State Police Command has implemented movement restrictions in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa local government areas from 12 noon to 5 PM on June 20, 2023, in preparation for a House of Representatives by-election. This measure aims to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.

The announcement was made by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. Essential personnel, including election officials and accredited observers, are exempt from these restrictions.

Security personnel will be deployed to polling units and critical locations across the affected areas. The police have urged voters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with electoral guidelines, warning against campaign activities and the display of political party insignia within 300 meters of polling units.

Bakori reiterated the command's zero-tolerance stance on electoral violence and malpractice, stating that any individual found engaging in electoral offenses will face arrest and prosecution under the Electoral Act 2022.
