Kano Council Approves N79bn for Urban Renewal Projects

On April 28, 2026, the Kano State Executive Council convened for its 39th meeting, where it approved a budget of N79,490,932,338.84 aimed at boosting public welfare and urban renewal across the state. The council's statement, issued by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, highlighted significant allocations, with the education sector receiving the largest share.

This includes N4.45 billion for registration fees for NECO, NABTEB, and NBAI examinations for Kano indigenes in 2026, alongside N2 billion for school furniture across 30 local government areas. The health sector was allocated funds for hospital renovations, routine immunizations, and maternal and child health services, with N406.2 million designated for Wudil General Hospital renovations.

The water resources sector received N21 billion for rehabilitating major water infrastructure, while urban renewal projects were allocated N5.2 billion for road construction. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's commitment to improving public services and accelerating development in Kano State was emphasized in the council's statement.
