Kano Customs Seizes 48 Endangered Animals in Major Bust

On August 25, 2026, the Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command conducted a significant operation, intercepting 48 endangered wildlife species in what is reported as the largest wildlife seizure in the command's history. Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Controller of Customs Usman Adamu, announced the details at the Customs House in Bompai.

The seized animals included 15 primates, such as chimpanzees, gorillas, and bush babies, as well as various wild cats like civets and caracals. Additionally, 25 wild birds, including greater bustards and rock fowls, were recovered, along with two albino crocodiles and a honey badger.

Three suspects linked to the trafficking attempt have been transferred to the Special Wildlife Office for further action. Adamu also provided an update on the command's performance, reporting total seizures and detentions valued at over N2 billion since July 2026, and a revenue collection of N63.07 billion in the first half of the year, with year-to-date earnings reaching N88.92 billion.
