Kano Delegation Urges Release of ₦5bn Fire Relief Fund

A high-powered delegation from Kano, including business leaders and senior government officials, met with Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to advocate for the immediate release of a ₦5 billion relief fund pledged by the Federal Government for victims of the Singer Market fire disaster. The delegation, which included Alhaji Sabiu Bako (President of the Association of Kano Business Community), Dr Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya (Commissioner for Finance), and others, emphasized the urgency of the fund to aid thousands of traders whose businesses were devastated by the fire.

They expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving the intervention and urged for a swift disbursement process. Akume assured the delegation that their concerns were acknowledged and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the victims.

Vice President Kashim Shettima had previously announced the fund during a reception for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's defection to the All Progressives Congress, alongside an additional ₦3 billion pledged by the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
