Kano Governor Disburses ₦55.8M to Empower Street Traders

Kano Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has disbursed a total of ₦55.8 million in grants to 1,116 street hawkers, roadside traders, and vulcanisers under the state government’s small business support programme. Each beneficiary received ₦50,000 to strengthen their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

This initiative is part of the administration's efforts to support micro-enterprises and reduce poverty, aiming to boost small-scale businesses and enhance economic opportunities for vulnerable entrepreneurs across Kano State. The empowerment programme was announced during a ceremony at the Government House, Kano, with beneficiaries from all 44 local government areas.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that while the grant may not solve all financial challenges, it would provide meaningful relief. This marks the second phase of the programme, following an initial phase that benefited 465 street traders.

The governor assured that another round of funding would be implemented before the year ends. Hon.

Ahmed Abubakar Bichi, Director-General of the Cottage Trade and Street Hawking Agency, stated the agency's commitment to improving the welfare of informal sector operators.
