Supreme Court to Resolve Kano Emirship Dispute in 2024

Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje announced that the Supreme Court will determine the fate of the Emirship tussle involving Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero. Ganduje's comments come amid renewed controversy surrounding the Kano throne, which has been embroiled in legal battles.

He stressed that the eventual ruling would be binding on all parties, including the state government. Ganduje dismissed reports suggesting he endorsed Sanusi II, clarifying that his remarks were misinterpreted and merely expressed respect for public gatherings.

He warned against public statements that could prejudice ongoing judicial proceedings, which he noted could amount to contempt of court. The case has been under judicial review, with the Court of Appeal previously directing parties to maintain the status quo pending the Supreme Court's final determination.

A ruling is anticipated in April 2024, which could potentially reinstate Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano following the removal of Aminu Ado Bayero, the current 15th Emir.
