Kano Governor Supports Religious Freedom with UN Visit

Kano Governor Yusuf made a commitment to support religious freedom and peaceful coexistence during a visit from the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, Nazila Ghanea. The visit was part of a nationwide assessment of religious freedom in Nigeria.

Governor Yusuf, represented by Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, welcomed the UN delegation and highlighted Kano's tradition of peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths. He stated that his administration would continue to support policies that promote social harmony and protect constitutional rights, regardless of religious affiliation.

The governor assured the UN delegation of Kano State's readiness to collaborate with national and international organizations to advance human rights and respect for diversity. Professor Ghanea explained that the mission aimed to assess the state of freedom of religion and belief in Nigeria, including existing constitutional safeguards and challenges faced by religious communities.
