Kano Seals Over 300 Illegal Structures in Enforcement Drive

The Kano State government has sealed more than 300 illegal structures throughout the metropolis as part of a renewed effort to enforce physical planning regulations and restore order to urban development. Dr Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, the chairman of the Kano State Taskforce on Illegal Structures, announced this on Wednesday.

The enforcement operation focused on major corridors, including Maiduguri Road, Western Bypass, Eastern Bypass, Ahmadu Bello Way, and Gwarzo Road. Affected properties include the Dan’agundi Shopping Plaza, block manufacturing yards, a car park, a site of a Chinese construction firm, structures beneath high-tension electricity lines at Rimin Gata, and a two-storey building at Gadon Kaya.

Dr Sani explained that the operation targets illegal developments on road setbacks, public lands, waterways, and power line corridors. He instructed owners of the sealed properties to report to the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS) to regularize their documents, warning that non-compliance would lead to prosecution.

The state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against unapproved developments.
