NDLEA Arrests 68 Drug Traffickers, Seizes Narcotics in Edo
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 68 drug traffickers in Edo State, including 34 males and 34 females, indicating that substance abuse affects all genders. NDLEA Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju reported the seizure of 7,524.83kg of Cannabis sativa, which included 1,098.177kg from suspects and 6,433.33kg destroyed from cannabis farms.
Additionally, the agency confiscated 5.3311kg of psychotropic substances, 0.0668kg of methamphetamine, and 34.8 liters of codeine syrup. The NDLEA destroyed four cannabis farms covering 2.573331 hectares located in Orhionmwon and Owan West Local Government Areas, with two farms in Igbanke Forest and the other two in Ukaro and Ewe Forests.
Furthermore, the agency rehabilitated 23 drug-dependent individuals and enrolled 12 others in vocational training programs, including tailoring, perfume-making, and liquid soap production.
