Kano Analyst Critiques Political Loyalty Over Competence

Abba Gwale, a political analyst from Kano State, raised concerns regarding the quality of emerging political leaders in the state, stating that the current political system favors loyalists over competent leaders. His comments were made on his Facebook page on Tuesday night, reacting to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) naming Mustapha Kwankwaso as the running mate for gubernatorial candidate Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo for the upcoming elections.

Gwale highlighted that the trend of selecting leaders based on loyalty rather than competence poses a serious risk to the future of Kano State. He noted that the criteria for choosing candidates, particularly for the deputy governor position, seem to prioritize political loyalty over moral character and capability.

Gwale acknowledged that while unexpected candidates could emerge to change the narrative, the overall outlook for political leadership in Kano does not appear promising. Mustapha Kwankwaso previously served as the Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports and is the son of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
