Kano: Rano Emirate Bans Early Girl-Child Marriage, Mandates Primary School Completion, Parents React

The Rano Emirate in Kano has implemented a new law banning early girl-child marriage and requiring primary school completion for all children in the community. Emir Rano Muhammad Isah Umaru announced the policy at a matriculation ceremony for Class One students, emphasizing the importance of education in safeguarding the future of young girls.

While some parents welcomed the decision as a positive step, others expressed concerns about cultural and economic challenges. The Emirate's Publicity Secretary reiterated the Emir's directive for parents to enroll their children in school and cooperate with government efforts to enhance education and improve citizen welfare.

In a separate development, the Sharada community in Kano has imposed a curfew, restricting movement beyond 10pm as part of new security measures.
