Kano State to Screen 3,000 Couples for Mass Wedding

The Kano State Hisbah Board is set to commence medical screenings for 3,000 prospective couples ahead of a planned mass wedding. Sheikh Mujahedeen Aminudeen, the Deputy Command General of the board, disclosed in a telephone interview that the initiative will involve 1,500 men and 1,500 women selected for the program.
The screenings aim to determine the health status of the couples, with tests including HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype, and drug screening. This mass wedding initiative, organized by the Kano State government under Governor Abba Yusuf, targets beneficiaries from less privileged backgrounds, including widows, divorcees, and spinsters.
The state government will provide support to the couples, including payment of dowries, items for brides, and a cash amount of N100,000 to start their own businesses. Aminudeen emphasized that participation in the medical screening is mandatory, warning that those who fail to undergo the exercise will be disqualified from the mass wedding program.
This initiative continues efforts initiated by former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to support vulnerable women and address social challenges in the state.
