Kano Suspends Thomas Region Water Scheme Manager Over Vandalism

Hashim, Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, announced the suspension of the Thomas Region Water Scheme's manager after an official inspection uncovered substantial infrastructure damage. The examination revealed that facilities intended to serve three local government areas had become inoperable.

At the scheme, authorities discovered critical equipment had been removed and damaged through acts of vandalism. Electrical wiring supplying power to generator and pump systems had been stripped away, rendering the water supply infrastructure unable to function.

Though the project achieved completion approximately three months before this inspection, officials' assessment exposed these grave issues. Ongoing investigations are examining what caused the damage to occur.

Both widespread vandalism and alleged sabotage appear to be contributing factors in the facility's deterioration, according to reports. The manager's suspension remains in effect while the inquiry proceeds, with officials working to establish accountability regarding what happened at the water scheme.

Kano State Government's action demonstrates commitment to addressing water scarcity affecting the state. Service disruptions have affected the three local government areas depending on this scheme as a consequence of the infrastructure breakdown.
