Kano Assembly Suspends LG Chairmen Over Fraud Allegations

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the chairmen of Bagwai, Bebeji, and Rogo Local Government Areas for a period of three months over allegations of financial misappropriation and abuse of office. This decision was made during a plenary session where a report from the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs was adopted.

The report, presented by Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala, was initiated following petitions from the legislative councils of Bebeji and Rogo LGAs, as well as concerned citizens of Bagwai LGA. The committee's findings indicated evidence of fund diversion in Bagwai, contract irregularities and illegal land sales in Bebeji, and mismanagement of funds allocated for roads and rural electrification in Rogo.

The Assembly recommended the three-month suspension to facilitate a thorough investigation, citing Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution. The resolution has been directed to the Clerk for forwarding to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for immediate action.
