Kano Assembly Suspends Three LG Chairmen for Misconduct

The Kano Assembly has suspended three local government chairmen: Abubakar Mustapha of Rogo, Dr Alhassan Salisu of Bebeji, and Bello Gadanya of Bagwai, due to allegations of misconduct. This decision was made during a plenary session after the adoption of a report from the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The committee's report was based on separate petitions from residents of the affected local government areas, alleging financial misappropriation, abuse of office, breach of public trust, and other administrative infractions. Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala presented the committee's findings, which included a review of relevant documents and interactive sessions with local government officials.

The Assembly's resolution, communicated by Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, is in accordance with Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower state Houses of Assembly to conduct investigations. The vice chairmen of the affected councils have been directed to assume leadership pending further investigation.
