Kano State to Build 5,000 Houses in Mega City Project

Kano State is set to build 5,000 houses under the ‘Gida-Gida Mega City’ project, located at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan along the Kano-Wudil-Maiduguri highway. This initiative, announced by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, and Architect Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, the Commissioner for Housing Development, is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's urban and rural expansion initiative.

The project aims to enhance infrastructure, including roads and bridges, and improve security and basic amenities in housing estates such as Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo. The total cost of the housing projects is projected to exceed N150 billion, with completion expected within 8 to 24 months.

The Gida-Gida Mega City will feature various housing options, including three- and five-bedroom houses. Compensation has been paid to landowners, and the Ministry of Housing Development has strengthened its capacity since its inception in 2025 to align with the National Housing Policy.

The Deputy President of the NGE, Dr Sabastine Abu, commended the governor for these impactful projects.
