Kano State Forms Committee to Tackle Illegal Structures

The Kano State Government has inaugurated an 11-member committee tasked with identifying illegal structures and reviewing building approvals within the Kano metropolitan area. This initiative, announced by Musa Tanko Muhammad, the press secretary to the office of the Secretary to the State Government, aims to address the government's concerns regarding the erection of structures without proper approvals, which undermines sustainable urban development and poses social, economic, and environmental risks.

Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the Secretary to the State Government, emphasized the critical nature of the committee's assignment for the physical and economic development of the state. The committee will be chaired by Dr.

Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, the Director General of Kano Geographic Information System, and includes members such as retired Permanent Secretary Dayyabu Zubairu and representatives from various sectors. The committee is expected to submit its report within four weeks, recommending measures to halt illegal developments and strengthen compliance with physical planning regulations.
