Kano–Katsina Rail Project 75% Complete, Set for 2026

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the 284-kilometre Kano–Daura–Katsina sections of the Kano–Maradi Railway Development Project by December 2026. A joint inspection from August 25 to August 27, 2026, by officials from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Federal Ministry of Finance, and project financiers confirmed that the Kano–Katsina section is over 75% complete.

Engr. Funso Adebiyi, represented by Engr. Habiba Buhari, stated that despite challenges such as the rainy season, security concerns, and land-access issues, significant progress has been made. The government is working to resolve land-related disputes and ensure timely procurement of rolling stock for the commissioning.

Alhaji Muhammadu Kamal from the Federal Ministry of Finance confirmed that the government has released its 15% counterpart funding, with the project financed through loans and counterpart funding, covering 85% of the costs.
