Kashim Shettima Turns 60: Lessons for Young Nigerians

Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s Vice President and former two-term Governor of Borno State, celebrated his 60th birthday on September 2. He holds a degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s from the University of Ibadan.

Shettima's career in banking included positions at Commercial Bank of Africa, African International Bank, and Zenith Bank, where he became General Manager of the Maiduguri branch. His banking experience provided him with skills in financial management and leadership, which he applied during his governorship from 2011 to 2019.

During this period, he led Borno State through the Boko Haram insurgency, focusing on rebuilding schools and promoting education as a counter to extremism. Shettima's journey from banker to governor, senator, and now Vice President illustrates the importance of education, community service, and adaptability in leadership.
