Katsina Government Enhances Financial Controls through Training

The Katsina State Government has intensified efforts to bolster financial controls and accountability by enhancing the skills of accountants and payment initiators managing the Treasury Single Account (TSA). Alhaji Bello Kagara, the Commissioner for Finance, announced this during a one-day follow-up capacity-building workshop aimed at TSA implementation accountants and payment initiators.

The training focuses on improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public fund management. Kagara emphasized the necessity of regular capacity building to equip financial officers with the skills needed to tackle emerging challenges.

He noted that the workshop would help participants identify gaps in TSA implementation and propose practical solutions. Kagara also mentioned challenges in the expenditure process, including issues with payment vouchers and internal checks.

He highlighted instances of payments being made to incorrect accounts and stated that the government is implementing stronger controls to rectify these issues. Kagara urged participants to uphold ethical standards and adhere to established financial procedures.
