Katsina Expands Women Empowerment Program Statewide

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda announced plans to expand the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up to all 34 local government areas, citing its significant impact on women's economic empowerment. This decision follows the success in three pilot local government areas, where over 57,000 women formed savings groups and collectively saved over N349 million.

Radda made this announcement in a statement issued on Friday after interacting with beneficiaries in Daura. The Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up is a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at improving women's livelihoods through access to savings groups, financial inclusion, and enterprise support.

Radda emphasized that empowering women is crucial for economic growth and sustainable development, stating that it leads to more stable families and better community outcomes. He noted that in Daura alone, about 19,000 women are participating in 765 affinity groups.

The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to investing in women's economic empowerment, having allocated N4 billion as counterpart funding for the initiative.
