Kebbi Governor Orders Investigation After School Fire

Following a fire outbreak at the Nurul Haqq Quran Arabic School in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday evening, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has ordered the establishment of a high-power investigative committee. The incident, which caused panic among students, was triggered by thick smoke observed along the roadside, leading to an immediate evacuation order.

The Kebbi State Fire Service responded promptly, ensuring the safe evacuation of 140 students and controlling the flames after three to four hours of firefighting. Governor Idris expressed gratitude that no lives were lost and emphasized that the safety of children is paramount.

He noted that the presence of gas cylinders in the students' room contributed to the blaze. The governor has committed to a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and has called for stricter enforcement of fire safety regulations in schools, particularly Quran Arabic institutions across northern Nigeria, which often face safety challenges.

The investigative committee is expected to submit its report within a week.
