Kebbi Government Warns Clerics Against Inciting Sermons

The Kebbi State Government, led by Governor Nasir Idris, has issued a warning to religious leaders in the state, urging them to refrain from delivering sermons that could incite public unrest. Muhammad Sani Aliyu, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, made this statement during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi.

He highlighted the government's notable contributions to the development of Islamic religious institutions in the state and stressed that any claims suggesting otherwise are misleading and intended to provoke public resentment. Aliyu urged religious leaders to concentrate on their primary responsibility of providing spiritual guidance rather than getting involved in political disputes.

This warning follows recent criticisms from Islamic preacher Bashir Jega, who reportedly claimed that the current administration has done little to support religious activities in the state. The Commissioner described Jega's remarks as inaccurate and insisted that the government has taken significant steps to strengthen religious institutions and promote Islamic affairs, including the establishment of a Ministry of Religious Affairs.
