Kebbi Government Defends Professors' Appointments Amid ADC Criticism

The Kebbi State Government has responded critically to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Campaign Council's appeal regarding the appointments of 21 professors to head Local Government Education Authorities. The ADC's Director of Strategic Communications, Bello Abdullahi, was accused of making a politically motivated appeal.

The government, represented by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Garba Dutsinmari and Magatakardan Bagudo Aminu Shehu, defended the appointments as part of Governor Nasir Idris’ strategy to enhance academic leadership in basic education. They highlighted the governor's achievements, including declaring a state of emergency in education, renovating over 2,000 primary schools, recruiting more than 2,000 teachers, and increasing scholarships for students.

The officials questioned the ADC's focus on the professors' official vehicles rather than educational outcomes. This exchange occurs amid heightened political activity in Kebbi ahead of the 2027 governorship election, where the ADC has nominated former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami as its candidate.
