Keir Starmer Resigns as UK Prime Minister, Backs Burnham

Keir Starmer formally resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, expressing his support for his successor, Andy Burnham, during a farewell address outside 10 Downing Street on Monday. Starmer reflected on his two years in office, stating he was proud of the government's record and achievements.

Following his speech, he traveled to Buckingham Palace to tender his resignation to King Charles III, who graciously accepted it. Starmer, who also holds the title of Member of Parliament, emphasized the importance of a smooth transition and pledged to support Burnham as he prepares to assume office.

Burnham was elected as the new Labour leader on Friday and is expected to deliver his first address outside Downing Street after appointing his cabinet. Notably, one of the first changes in the government includes the resignation of the prison minister, Lord Timpson, earlier on the same day.
