Kida Calls for Support as D’Tigers Start Qualifiers

Engr Amadu Musa Kida, the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), has urged Nigerians to rally behind the senior men's basketball team, D’Tigers, as they commence their campaign in the FIBA Africa Basketball World Cup qualifiers. The team is drawn in Group E alongside Cameroon, South Sudan, Cape Verde, Tunisia, and Guinea.

D’Tigers will kick off their qualifiers against regional rivals Cameroon on August 27, 2023, followed by a match against South Sudan on August 28, and concluding the opening window against Cape Verde on August 30. Kida emphasized the importance of support from basketball fans and corporate organizations to motivate the players and technical crew as they face some of Africa's best basketball nations.

He expressed confidence in the team's ability to compete strongly, noting their favorable record against group opponents, having won three out of four previous encounters against Cameroon, although they have only one win in six meetings with Cape Verde.
