D’Tigers Begin FIBA World Cup Qualifiers Against Cameroon

Ahmad Musa Kida, the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), has called on Nigerians to rally behind the senior men's national basketball team, D’Tigers, as they begin their campaign in the FIBA Africa Basketball World Cup qualifiers. The D’Tigers are drawn in Group E alongside Cameroon, South Sudan, Cabo Verde, Tunisia, and Guinea.

Their qualifying matches will commence on August 27, 2023, against regional rivals Cameroon, followed by a game against South Sudan on August 28, and concluding the opening qualifying window against Cabo Verde on August 30. Kida urged basketball fans and corporate organizations to support the team in their quest to secure qualification for the next FIBA Basketball World Cup.

He expressed confidence in the team's ability to compete strongly, noting their positive record against group opponents, having won three out of four previous encounters with Cameroon. However, he acknowledged that Cabo Verde poses a challenge, as Nigeria has only one win in six meetings against them.
