Kogi State University Launches Anti-Cultism Squad

Kogi State University has initiated a new anti-cultism squad in response to the recent death of Dior, a 300-level student in the Department of Microbiology. During the 403rd regular meeting on June 29, 2026, Vice Chancellor Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman announced the formation of a special joint security anti-cultism squad and appointed retired Chief Superintendent of Police Israel Sanni Ayegba as the new Chief Security Coordinator.

This decision aims to combat the increasing wave of cultism on campus. The university has also expanded its security stakeholder group to include traditional rulers and community security agencies.

To support these efforts, the institution donated two operational vehicles for the new squad and reconstituted the student disciplinary committee to address misconduct. Professor Usman expressed gratitude to Governor Ahm Usman Ododo and local leaders for their support in enhancing campus security and maintaining a safe learning environment.
