Student Arrested for Attempted Cult Initiation at University

On June 19, 2026, Mr. Adejo Ojonimi, a 25-year-old 400-level student in the Department of Economics at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, was arrested by the university's security services.

This arrest followed a formal complaint regarding an alleged attempt to forcefully initiate another student into a cult, specifically the Black Axe confraternity. The victim reported physical assault and threats to his life, leading to an investigation by the university's security unit.

During the investigation, visible physical injuries were noted on the victim. Ojonimi reportedly admitted to aspects of the assault and threats during interrogation.

Further examination of his mobile phone revealed conversations with cult group members. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Salisu Usman, commended the security operations and reiterated the university's zero-tolerance policy towards cultism and violence, urging students to report any suspicious activities.
