Student Arrested for Cult Recruitment at University

On June 19, 2026, Adejo Ojonimi, a 25-year-old final-year student in the Department of Economics at Prince Abubakar Audu University, was arrested for allegedly attempting to force fresh students into cult membership. The university's security services acted on a complaint from students in the Department of Food Science and Technology, who reported that Ojonimi had approached them, pressuring them to join the Black Axe confraternity.

The students claimed they were assaulted and threatened with dire consequences if they refused. Preliminary investigations revealed visible injuries on the complainants, and Ojonimi reportedly admitted to aspects of the assault during interrogation.

Further examination of his mobile phone uncovered conversations with cult members. The university's Vice Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended the security personnel for their vigilance and reiterated the institution's zero-tolerance stance on cultism and violence, urging students to report any suspicious activities.
