APC Faces Internal Conflict in Kogi West Ahead of 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing internal strife in Kogi West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections. Senator Sunday Steve Karimi won the APC senatorial primary on May 18, 2026, with 51,665 votes, and his candidacy was affirmed by the party and submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Honourable Samuel Bamidele Aro, an aspirant in the primary, has contested the process in the Federal High Court, Lokoja, seeking recognition as the legitimate APC candidate. This dispute has revealed deeper divisions within the party, highlighting competing interests and political camps that may undermine APC's unity.

Earlier, some APC stakeholders had supported Aro as a consensus candidate, but this was opposed by Karimi's supporters. The situation raises concerns about political influence, control of party structures, and the future direction of the APC in Kogi West, as the party must address these internal conflicts to maintain its dominance.
