Steve Karimi Wins Kogi West APC Senatorial Primary

Steve Karimi won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Kogi West, securing 51,000 votes against his closest rival, who garnered just 1,000 votes. This victory positions him for re-election in the January 2027 general elections.

Karimi's political journey includes previous representation of the Yagba Federal Constituency from 2011 to 2019 and a strong backing from seven local government areas. His primary election win follows a competitive landscape, including former representatives like Smart Afolabi Adeyemi and Dino Melaye.

Allegations of electoral malpractice have surfaced, with reports of money changing hands and claims of falsified submissions linked to senior aides in the presidential office. Ajibola Bashiru, the APC national secretary, advised state party organs to withhold announcing results until they receive clearance from national authorities.
