Supreme Court Dismisses Appeal to Re-open Al-Mustapha's Trial for Kudirat Abiola's Murder

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed an appeal seeking to re-open the trial of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to late military head of state General Sani Abacha, for the murder of Kudirat Abiola. Kudirat Abiola, the wife of late businessman and politician Chief MKO Abiola, was allegedly killed in June 1996 in Lagos State.

Al-Mustapha was initially found guilty in 2012 but later acquitted in 2013 due to insufficient evidence. Despite attempts to re-open the trial, the appeal failed to meet the court's requirements.

Senior lawyer Paul Daudu represented Al-Mustapha in the proceedings.
