Supreme Court Dismisses Case Against Major Al-Mustapha in Kudirat Abiola Murder Trial

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the murder case against Major Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer of late military head of state, General Sani Abacha, in the Kudirat Abiola murder trial. Kudirat Abiola, the wife of presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, Moshood Abiola, was shot dead in 1996.

The trial, initiated by the Lagos State government, was laid to rest after the Supreme Court ruled that the state had abandoned its appeal. Major Al-Mustapha had been sentenced to death in 2012 for allegedly ordering Kudirat Abiola's killing.
