Kwankwasiyya Movement Defends Gwarzo Against ₦1.1B Allegations

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has come to the defense of Aminu Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, who faces allegations of misappropriating ₦1.1 billion. The movement insists that the funds were duly approved by Governor Abba Yusuf for specific projects aimed at addressing water supply issues and drug procurement across the state's 44 local government areas.

Documents released by the Kwankwasiyya Movement indicate that the governor authorized the release of these funds, with a memo dated May 20, 2024, referencing the allocation of ₦10 million for borehole maintenance and ₦15 million for medical supplies. The impeachment notice against Gwarzo, signed by 38 out of 40 lawmakers, cites gross misconduct and abuse of office, which the Kwankwasiyya Movement argues is politically motivated, especially following Governor Yusuf's recent defection to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Gwarzo has been given two weeks to respond to the allegations, which are expected to be investigated by a constitutional panel.
