Kwankwaso Calls for Fresh National Census in Nigeria

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Vice Presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to conduct a fresh national population census, citing a 20-year delay since the last census in 2006. Kwankwaso made this call on Saturday, coinciding with the observance of World Population Day 2026.

He expressed concern over the reliance on outdated population figures, which he argued hinder effective governance and resource allocation across various sectors, including education, healthcare, and security. Kwankwaso emphasized that accurate and current demographic data is essential for policymakers to assess the country's needs and allocate resources fairly among states and communities.
