Two Children Rescued from Collapsed Building in Ilorin

On April 9, 2026, two children, Ahmad (8) and Hussainat (10), were trapped in a collapsed building located on Ajegunle Street off Sabo Line in the Isal area of Ilorin, Kwara State. The building, which was dilapidated and comprised two storeys with six flats, collapsed while the children were inside.

The Kwara State Fire Service, led by Hassan Adekunl, received an emergency call and arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations. The children were successfully rescued and taken to the hospital for care.

During the operation, essential belongings, including clothing, electronics, food items, and important documents, were recovered. The NSCDC sealed off the affected structure and issued a seven-day ultimatum for the occupants of adjacent buildings to vacate, deeming them unsafe.

The Kwara State Fire Service recommended that property owners conduct regular structural integrity assessments and heed early warning signs to prevent future disasters.
