Soil Collapse in Sokoto Claims Lives of Two Children

On Wednesday morning, a tragic incident occurred in Boyekai Town, Goronyo Local Government Area, Sokoto, where two children, Yahuza Ibrahim and Mubarak Dandar, both aged 11, were killed when a soil collapse happened during excavation for laterite intended for home repairs ahead of the rainy season. Eyewitnesses reported that the children were accompanied by an elder brother at a common site where building materials were sourced.

At around 10:00 AM, while excavating a pit, the soil suddenly collapsed, burying the children. Despite the presence of people at the site, the initial response did not lead to immediate rescue efforts.

The bodies were later recovered and buried according to Islamic rites. Residents expressed concern over the recurring incidents in the area, recalling a similar tragedy from the previous year when a man died due to a soil collapse, highlighting the need for increased safety awareness regarding excavation activities, particularly among children.
