Two Children Rescued from Collapsed Building in Kwara

On Thursday, a two-story residential building collapsed in Ilorin, Kwara State, specifically at Ajegunle Street off Sabo Line in the Isale area. The incident involved a six-flat building and occurred around 9:10 AM.

The Kwara State Fire Service, represented by spokesperson Hassan Adekunle, confirmed that two children, Ahmad (8 years old) and Hussainat (10 years old), were initially trapped under the debris but were successfully rescued by firefighters who arrived promptly. They were subsequently taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The fire service commenced salvage operations, recovering essential belongings such as clothing, electronics, food items, and important documents. Following an assessment of the site, the fire service raised concerns about the safety of nearby structures and recommended urgent preventive measures to avert further disasters.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was advised to seal off the collapsed structure and issue a seven-day ultimatum for the evacuation of adjacent buildings deemed unsafe. The fire service emphasized the importance of regular structural integrity assessments and immediate action upon identifying defects to prevent tragedies.
