Two Young Men Drown in Kwara Quarry Lake

On March 23, 2026, two young men, Fatai Abdulraman, aged 26, and Muham Awal, aged 27, reportedly drowned in a quarry lake located in the Opet area of Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State. The circumstances surrounding their drowning remain unclear.

The Kwara State Fire Service responded to an emergency call and successfully recovered the bodies of the victims during a rescue operation. Upon arrival, firefighters conducted a recovery operation and retrieved the bodies of Fatai Abdulraman and Muham Awal.

Following the incident, Mallam Abdulfatahi was involved in making necessary arrangements. CF Alabi Muham, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed deep sympathy regarding the tragic incident and advised the public to avoid swimming or engaging in activities in quarry lakes, which are often deep, unstable, and highly dangerous.

The fire service urged the community to restrict access to such sites and to report emergencies promptly to prevent further loss of life.
