Two Drown in Kano While Fleeing Phone Snatchers

On March 6, 2026, in Kano, two individuals drowned while attempting to escape from phone snatchers. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that 18-year-old Sadiq Isyaku fell into a pond while pursuing the suspects and was later found unconscious and pronounced dead.

His father, Ibrahim Shehu, resides in Unguwa Uku. Preliminary findings indicated that Isyaku was chasing the phone snatchers when the accident occurred.

In a separate incident on March 9, 2026, the fire service rescued 40-year-old Shitu Balarab, who had also fallen into water in Durumin Zungura, Kano Municipality. His brother, Jamilu Balarab, is a director at the fire service.

Alhaji Sani, a spokesperson for the fire service, extended condolences to the families of the victims and urged the community to implement preventive measures, such as constructing barriers around open water and providing covers for wells to avert similar tragedies.
