Two Young Men Drown in Kwara Quarry Lake

On Monday evening, two young men, Fatai Abdulraman (26) and Muham Awal (27), drowned in a quarry lake located in the Opet area of Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State. The Kwara State Fire Service, alerted at 5:08 PM, promptly deployed to the scene to conduct recovery operations.

They successfully retrieved the bodies of the victims, which were handed over to Mallam Abdulfatahi for further arrangements. Alabi Muham, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and warned residents about the dangers of unsafe water bodies, particularly unregulated quarry sites, which can be deceptively deep and unstable.

He emphasized the importance of public safety awareness and urged the community to restrict access to hazardous sites and report emergencies immediately. This incident underscores the growing concern regarding drowning cases in open water bodies across the state, particularly in unregulated areas.
