IED Blast in Kwara Kills Driver, Injures Woman and Baby

In Kwara, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated, resulting in the death of a commercial driver and serious injuries to a woman, while a six-month-old baby survived the blast. The explosion occurred around 7 AM as the vehicle passed the planted device.

The woman sustained severe injuries, including a deep head wound and fractures, and was given first aid before being transferred to Ilorin for further medical attention. The incident has raised fears of insecurity in the area, particularly following a crackdown on bandit logistics networks, which may have provoked retaliatory attacks.

Local government chairman Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi confirmed that police bomb disposal teams successfully neutralized another explosive device found at the scene. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered military personnel to be deployed to restore order, following a series of coordinated attacks that have reportedly resulted in the deaths of 150 residents in recent months.
