Kwara APC Elders Reject Salihu's Governorship Candidacy

The Kwara State chapter of the APC is experiencing a crisis as elders have rejected the governorship candidacy of Yakubu Danladi Salihu for the 2027 election. The elders, represented by the Kwara State APC Elder Caucus, argue that the primary election held on May 22, 2026, which declared Salihu the winner with 94,990 votes, did not reflect a credible electoral process.

They have called on President Bola Tinubu and the national chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentaw Yilwatda, to urgently revisit the primary's outcome and broaden consultations with stakeholders across the state.

The elders expressed concerns about Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq's endorsement of Salihu, stating that the decision lacked sufficient consultation and does not represent the strongest political option for the party. They warned that the political dynamics in the state have shifted significantly, making it crucial for the APC to present a candidate with broader appeal to ensure electoral success.
